Sports psychology is a critical discipline that explores the psychological factors affecting athletic performance and the application of psychological principles to improve it. This scientific article reviews the key components of sports psychology-motivation, self-confidence, concentration, anxiety regulation, and mental resilience-and examines their neurobiological underpinnings, practical interventions, and evidence-based outcomes in sports performance. An integration of psychophysiological mechanisms and cognitive-behavioural strategies illustrates how sports psychology contributes to both elite and amateur athletic success. The article also highlights current gaps and future research directions in the field. Furthermore, it underscores the growing emphasis on individualized mental training programs tailored to sport-specific and athlete-specific demands. These programs integrate psychological diagnostics with physiological monitoring to deliver precise interventions. With increasing interest in athlete well-being and holistic development, sports psychology has extended its reach to include emotional health and life balance. Digital innovations like mental training apps and biofeedback platforms are becoming vital tools in psychological coaching. This evolution reflects a paradigm shift from purely physical optimization to an integrated biopsychosocial approach to performance.
