Cancer is the main public health problem in the world, being one of the main causes of death and, consequently, one of the main barriers to increasing life expectancy worldwide. In Brazil, the estimate for the three-year period from 2023 to 2025 indicates that there will be 704 thousand new cases of cancer [1]. The estimated number of esophageal cancer cases for each year of the three-year period from 2023 to 2025 is 10,990 cases, corresponding to an estimated risk of 5.07 per 100,000 inhabitants, with 8,200 cases in men and 2,790 cases in women [1].
