Abstract

Acute upper airway obstruction is a medical emergency that typically requires prompt airway stabilization via intubation or tracheotomy. However, in cases of large mediastinal or cervical tumors causing significant tracheal compression, these conventional airway strategies may fail or be contraindicated due to the risk of complete airway collapse. In such rare, high-risk cases, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may serve as a bridge to secure oxygenation and initiate definitive treatment.
