Down syndrome (DS), also known as trisomy 21, is a well-characterized genetic disorder caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21, leading to developmental delays, congenital anomalies, and intellectual disability. Despite significant scientific advances in identifying its chromosomal basis and risk factors, the precise cause of nondisjunction during meiosis remains unknown, limiting our understanding of its true origins. This incomplete understanding also contributes to suboptimal treatment outcomes. However, according to the teachings of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door (心灵法门), DS is not merely a genetic condition but a karmic manifestation arising from unresolved spiritual debts, ancestral karma, or spiritual possession. This study presents seven responses from Dharma Master Jun Hong Lu to inquirers, which clarify the karmic causes of DS and propose Buddhist-based solutions, such as spirit ascension and karma elimination. Additionally, we highlight four real-world cases where families of children with DS applied these Golden Buddhist Practices, resulting in incredible documented improvements in behavior, cognition, and overall health. These outcomes suggest that DS may be more accurately understood as a karmic condition with limited physical genetic expression. This perspective explains why Dharma-based practices can yield extraordinary therapeutic effects in children with DS.
