This paper analyzes the different meanings of the term space, which has a significant place in defining appropriate development theories. The starting point is a historical insight into the development of this concept, which was transposed from philosophy into geography), in which it is the primary subject of study. Different interpretations of space during the late 1960s in the fields of philosophy and social theory enabled the emergence of a spatial shift in the social sciences. Thus, there was a break in the development of modernity, and the postmodern period began. This gave special significance to the new methodological framework for interpreting theories of economic development, which showed different interpretations of space a more comprehensive and practical meaning in the regional economy.
