Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia, Which Way is the Best? Surgeryor Endovascular; a Short Commentary

Abstract

Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI), is the most severe manifestation of peripheral artery disease, is defined by ischemic foot pain at rest, ischemic ulcerations, or gangrene. More than 200 million people have peripheral artery disease worldwide; CLTI affects up to 11% of this population and if left untreated, it will cause permanent disability like amputation and even mortality. Aside from the severe health outcomes associated with CLTI, the economic effect of the condition is substantial, with an estimated annual cost of approximately $12 billion in the United States alone.
