Co-Infection of Pulmonary Actinomycosis and Pulmonary Tuberculosis: A Case Report

Abstract

Pulmonary actinomycosis is a rare infection caused by bacteria of the Actinomycetaceae family. Pulmonary actinomycosis itself is uncommon, and its co-occurrence with tuberculosis is even rarer. We report a case of a 61-year-old female patient diagnosed with concurrent pulmonary actinomycosis and pulmonary tuberculosis. High-resolution computed tomography, histopathological examination, and GeneXpert testing of the bronchoalveolar lavage sample allowed us to confirm the diagnosis of co-infection. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of concomitant pulmonary actinomycosis and pulmonary tuberculosis in Mongolia.
