Objectivity and Subjectivity in Conservation-Restoration: Between Scientific Method and Human Interpretation

Abstract

The question of objectivity in conservation-restoration has
accompanied the discipline since its emergence as a distinct field
of study. Conservation-restoration presents itself as a profession
grounded in science, relying on material analysis, historical
research, and ethical guidelines to preserve cultural heritage. At the
same time, every intervention requires human judgment, raising
the question of whether complete objectivity is truly possible.
