Abstract

This work reviews the development of glial cells, gliotransmission, the glial role in brain aging, also the mechanisms of glial cell communication. Current concepts on the importance of glia are shown in pathologies such as schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorders, affective disorders, anxiety, acute/posttraumatic stress disorders, and Alzheimer’s disease.
